Even a spike belt couldn’t stop a man who took off from Saskatoon police during an attempted traffic stop Tuesday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m., police say a vehicle failed to completely stop at the intersection of Rusholme Road and Avenue E North in the Caswell Hill neighbourhood. The driver took off, and despite hitting a spike belt at 22nd Street and Avenue H South, he was able to reverse into the police car before heading outside the city.
The police air unit tracked the vehicle for about 90 kilometres west of Saskatoon, where it eventually got stuck on a grid road.
The 24-year-old driver faces multiple charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and evading police. The passenger was released without charges.
