Youth bonspiel prize stolen from Regina's Callie Curling Club

The Callie Curling Club in Regina is looking for a thief who stole from kids.

Hundreds of dollars worth of prizes intended for a youth bonspiel were swiped over the weekend.

The club’s Nicole Thompson explained sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning, security camera footage captured a man in a blue hooded sweatshirt entering the club after it had closed. They believe he is the person responsible.

“It’s just awful, it’s horrible. It’s one thing to steal from anybody but to steal from kids, and it was over the Easter weekend. It’s just horrendous what has happened here,” said Thompson.

She guessed well over $500 worth of items like curling equipment, clothing and shoes were taken.

Thompson said while the kids — many of whom were under 15 — were upset with the news, they also kept their smiles, just happy to be curling.

The security camera footage has been posted to Facebook, along with a still picture of the man, with the hopes someone may recognize him. The video has already been viewed tens of thousands of times.

“Our hope is just to find the guy and catch him and make sure that he pays for what he did.”
