As leaves and grass make a spring debut in Saskatoon, people are encouraged to drop off the natural debris for composting.
The city’s two compost depots are set to open April 11, weather permitting.
- West – Highway 7 Compost Depot
Located at the junction of Highway 7 and 11th Street West, the west depot is open daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vehicles will not be admitted after 5:50 p.m.
- East – Highway 5 Compost Depot
Located off Highway 5 via the junction of Highway 41 and Zimmerman Road, east of Sundown Storage Solutions, the east depot is open Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday to Monday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Vehicles will not be admitted after 4:50 p.m. (6:50 p.m. on Thursdays).
The depots are free for Saskatoon residents.
Food waste is not accepted for drop off at these facilities, but people may subscribe for a green cart for street-front collection every two weeks.
Information on how to get your own cart is available online; the deadline to sign up is May 15.
City collection begins May 2 for homes registered by April 15.
For commercial haulers, a seasonal permit is required to use the facilities. More information on how to register for one is available online.
