The man who evaded police for over a week made a brief court appearance Friday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.
Braidy Chase Vermette did not say a word as the case was adjourned to May 11. He has been remanded to the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.
Vermette is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the 2015 death of Troy Napope. In addition to the murder charge, he also now faces a charge of escape and being at large without excuse.
On March 30, he escaped custody while being transported to the Victoria Hospital to receive medical attention. Two armed and masked men showed up and took Vermette away.
Vermette and his girlfriend, Tristen Smith, were found early Thursday morning at a house in the RM of Buckland. The pair were arrested after the house caught fire.
Smith also appeared in court Friday morning.
Smith who is charged with drug possession and several counts of failure to appear. She is now scheduled to appear in court Monday morning via video link from the women’s correctional centre.
The other man accused in Napope’s death, Skylar Patrick Bird, is awaiting his next court appearance on May 24.
