Two elementary school employees on the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nation were recently terminated.
George Gamble, formally of Chief Beardy Memorial Elementary School, is facing charges of sexual exploitation and sexual interference.
Candace Scott, a counsellor in charge of education on the reserve, said the termination of a second employee is unrelated, but that person is also facing charges.
Scott said she could not provide any other details but said students at the school were not involved in the separate incidents.
A publication ban that has been placed on the case means details about the second man, like his name and the charges against him, cannot be reported
Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation council have released a statement ensuring the community they are following provincial protocol and resources have been made available to the victims.
“Our first priority is that our children and families feel safe and have the necessary counselling, mental health supports, and spiritual guidance they require. More resources and support may be called upon if required to assist our community,”
Council asked the community to respect the privacy of the alleged victims.
