It looks like Kevin Smith is serious about making a movie in Saskatchewan.
Smith’s company has applied for a grant from Creative Saskatchewan.
The government body that oversees arts grants in Saskatchewan said it doesn’t normally publicly discuss applications, but it made an exception in this case because Smith “has not been shy about publicly sharing his enthusiasm for Moose Jaw and Moose Jaws”.
The application is currently being processed.
Smith is the mind behind such cult classics as Clerks, and Dogma. He’s also the (mostly) silent partner in Jay & Silent Bob.
A lot of excitement stirred in Moose Jaw at the end of February when Smith was scouting locations for the film.
In Facebook and Instagram posts, Smith described Moose Jaws as “Jaws but with a moose instead of a shark”. He said it’s going to be the third movie in his True North Trilogy – the first two of which were Tusk and Yoga Hosers which were both set in Winnipeg but shot in the U.S.
