Three more names are being added to the long list of Saskatchewan artists who have received funding from Rawlco Radio.
Project 10K20 has provided $780,000 to the music community, with $10,000 given to each artist to record, mix and master an album.
“The exciting part of this program is that it is open to all genres; country, folk, pop, rock and more,” said Harreson James, the project director, in a statement.
The spring 2016 recipients are Saskatoon’s Codie Prevost, Regina’s Belle Plaine and Saskatoon’s Firing at the Sky.
Prevost is a four-time Canadian Country Music Association nominee and won the Saskatchewan Country Music Association “Fans Choice Entertainer of the Year” six times.
Belle Plaine studied jazz and contemporary music at Grant MacEwan College. Known for a jazzy take on country and folk, she’s released a full-length CD along with a live album, and is working on her follow-up album.
Hard-edged rock bank Firing at the Sky combines metal with pop. The four-member group features musicians from Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan.
The next winners will be announced in the fall of 2016.
