Worlds collided at the Canada Centre Building this weekend as hundreds of people donned capes, dresses, wigs, and chunks of foam to look like their favourite characters from every genre.
Characters from Super Mario Bros. walked next to The Avengers, and Jedis talked to anime animals.
Some people had costumes they bought pre-made, but others, like Chris Pugh, made their own costumes.
Pugh dressed up as The Thing from the superhero group Fantastic Four, a costume he said he started working on about a year and a half ago.
“It’s mostly made out of bed foam, like a really thin layer of bed foam, cut individually and then contact cemented onto each one.”
On Saturday he said he was having a lot of fun, and was getting compliments from others.
Why The Thing? Pugh said he really likes the family story of Fantastic Four.
“It’s a fun one, and I’ve never really seen the costume around, so I thought I’d take a shot at it.”
Pugh was made up head-to-toe, but didn’t know if he was going to enter the costume contest later in the day.
“I like just wandering around. I also don’t think I can get up the steps,” he said laughing.
