Conservative interim leader Rona Ambrose visits Evraz Steel in Regina

On the same day Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is going to Fort Qu’Appelle, Conservative interim leader Rona Ambrose also happened to be in Regina.

The leader of the Opposition toured the Evraz Steel plant and met with business leaders on Tuesday. She joined Gormley on Tuesday morning to discuss the focus of her visit which is pipelines.

Ambrose is calling on the prime minister to take a clear stand and explain his policy position on pipeline approval.

“The uncertainty that his policy positions have created in the industry are not good for job creation, they’re not good for business investment,” she told John Gormley Tuesday morning.

She maintains that Trudeau has been “waffling” on his position on pipelines since the election campaign. She also questioned why the prime minister didn’t mention anything publicly about the Keystone XL pipeline on his recent visit to the White House.

“He actually has to stand up when he’s here – because this is a province like Alberta that needs these jobs – and once and for all say that he supports pipelines and that he’ll champion them and if they get through his process, that he’ll approve them,” Ambrose commented.

Ambrose describes the current pipeline approval process as “vague” and insists that it creates too much uncertainty in the oil industry which translates into more job losses.

On his visit to Fort Qu’Appelle, Trudeau is expected to meet with 11 chiefs from the File Hills Tribal Council before making an announcement at the Treaty 4 Governance Centre Tuesday evening.
