Saskatoon continues to ride high of hot weather

Saskatoon’s warm embrace is much more than a spring fling.

With a Monday high of 26 C, Tuesday is set to raise the bar at 28 C.

It could even be one for the history books – the weather record for May 3 is 28.5 C from 1985.

What’s more is the mid-week heat will likely push the city even higher to 31 C.

No surprise then that people are already enjoying sandbar season in Saskatoon.

A couple dozen people were out sunbathing on the beach near the North Circle Drive Bridge Monday.

“It’s just nice to be close to nature and close to the water. You can be outside on your deck and stuff, but being by the river and the trees and sand makes it a little bit better,” said one beachgoer.

 “We’re having a good time, you know it’s a beautiful day,” another said.

Things were also bustling at the Bus Stop confectionery outside the Bessborough Hotel.

“We had a good lunch, and then like one to three (in the afternoon), it was just crazy; everyone was coming out for ice creams, hot dogs – it was awesome,” said Shana Yates while working at the Bus Stop.  

The rest of the week will remain warmer than the seasonal norms at this time, which usually hover in the high teens.

People are reminded that swimming in the South Saskatchewan River within city limits is against the law.
