A massive fundraising effort will take place this weekend for those in need of food donations in Saskatoon.
The Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre said it sees more than 20,000 people each month – almost half of whom are children.
On Saturday, the annual city-wide food drive will be held to bolster support for the centre before a busy summer season.
According to the food bank, more children are in need this time of year, as school is on break.
Saskatonians can help by filling a donation bag, that should have been included in the mail, with healthy non-perishable food and putting it on the doorstep by 10 a.m. Saturday May 7.
A large team of volunteers will then set out into city neighbourhoods to collect from doorsteps.
For those who did not receive a bag, or who live in an apartment or condo, donations can be dropped off at the local grocery store or at the Food Bank directly.
The drive hopes to collect 100,000 pounds of food.
