Once again, a pair of Saskatoon realtors are collecting food bank donations for their disaster-stricken neighbours in Alberta.
Paul Chavady and Jerry Hallgrimson collected donations in 2013 after floods ravaged southern Alberta.
With tens of thousands of people evacuated this week due to wildfires in the Fort McMurray area, the duo was out Friday collecting items for the Edmonton Food Bank.
They were on hand at the Stonebridge Walmart in Saskatoon with a semi-trailer donated by Siemens Transportation.
Chavady said people started bringing donations the moment they pulled up.
Emily Engel brought a few bags of food to the truck. She said she has been horrified ever since the first images of the devastation in Fort McMurray started coming out.
“I could cry for the people. So I just had to come and help them,” she said.
Jennifer Allen said even though the northern Alberta community is hundreds of kilometres away, she was donating because it was easy to imagine herself and her two kids in the same situation as the evacuees.
“I know how hard it is to make ends meet sometimes even on a normal day. So I just couldn’t imagine not working, not knowing where that next paycheque was coming from,” she said.
Chavady said they would be taking donations until 7 p.m.
