A $1.5-million show home is now in the possession of Regina’s Don and Cyndy Findlay.
It’s the grand prize in the Hospitals of Regina Foundation spring Home Lottery.
“What went through our minds was somebody was playing a funny joke on us and we thought it wasn’t so funny, they shouldn’t be playing a joke like that on us,” recalled Cyndy.
They toured the house for the first time on Friday morning, still in amazement. They aren’t yet sure if they’ll keep the home. Cyndy said it was one of those problems you don’t mind having.
She joked about telling the rest of her family they had won the lottery’s top prize.
“They said that ‘Oh good mum, we finally get a bedroom when we come home to visit’,” she laughed.
The mother-daughter pair of Jeanette and Melanie Ranalli, also from Regina, were in shock when they found out they were the 50/50 winners, taking home $363,127.50 between them.
“[I] ended up just crying, couldn’t believe it really,” explained Melanie as she began to tear up again holding her baby boy Gabriel in her arms. “Very grateful. [It’s] a great cause and a lot of people will benefit from it. Everyone is need of the hospitals at some point, I mean I was, I ended up in the hospital after his birth.”
“It’s a life changer, really,” added Jeanette.
Both of the Ranalli’s said they plan to use part of the money for education for the kids and grandkids.
A full list of winners will be posted online next week on the foundation’s website (hrfhomelottery.com).
