Regina Humane Society looking for new homes for kittens

The Regina Humane Society is greeting the spring with a event to help find homes for cats and kittens. 

Bill Thorn is with the Humane Society. He said on Friday they had about 100 cats in their care, and about 50 that were ready for adoption.

“We’re starting to see a fairly dramatic increase in felines coming in. I’d say in the last couple weeks we’ve almost doubled the number we had under our care.”

Thorn called this time of year “kitten season”.

“When the snow goes away people let them out, and if they’re not spayed or neutered, it takes about 60 days for kittens to happen.”

Thorn said they expect to keep getting more and more cats in, and want to stay ahead of the curve. He said the more cats they have in their care, the more likely it is that disease will come in and spread among the animals.

During the “Everything is coming up Kitties” event, adoptions for cats and kittens are reduced to $50 each, from about $185. The adoptions include spay or neuter, vaccinations, an ear tattoo and microchip, 30 days of pet insurance, and a vet check-up. And, in the spirit of the season, everyone who adopts a cat will also be given a free six-pack of garden flowers.

The event ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
