A man who tried to hide the evidence of what he thought was a murder will be spending some more time behind bars.
Brian Terrance Gordon pleaded guilty to arson and obstruction of justice in the death of Ray Yacevitch back in 2014.
Yacevitch was beaten to the point the people involved thought he was dead. However, court heard in another case that Yacevitch was actually still alive when the house he was in was set on fire.
Gordon set the house on fire to try to cover up the death.
In 2015, Gordon tried unsuccessfully tried to take back his guilty pleas.
On Monday, Gordon was sentenced to five and a half years in jail – three years for arson, and two and a half for obstruction – but was given 38 months of credit for time served.
Gordon was also ordered to provide a DNA sample and was given a firearms prohibition for 10 years.
