A child pornography investigation has led police to arrest a 58-year-old Saskatoon man.
The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has charged Gerhard H. Maynard with accessing, possessing and making child pornography available to others.
The alleged offences took place on a peer-to-peer file-sharing network.
Police said the ICE Unit began investigating Maynard’s activities in February. After a lengthy investigation, officers identified an east side Saskatoon address where the child pornography offences were allegedly taking place.
On Thursday, the unit executed a search warrant at Maynard’s home, where he was arrested and charged.
Investigators said they found child porn videos in the process of being accessed, downloaded and uploaded to other users through the file-sharing network.
Maynard is expected in Saskatoon Provincial Court Friday morning, with a second appearance schedules for June 14.
The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is comprised of investigators from the RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and exploitation of children on the Internet.
