Social Services has apologized after contact information for more than 200 people was accidentally released.
It happened when an email was sent out for the First Home Plan. The 208 people involved had contacted SaskHousing to inquire about the plan, and an email was sent to all of them with more information.
However, all the 208 email addresses were posted into the “to” line as opposed to the “bcc” line, which would have masked the email addresses from the recipients.
The Ministry said it sent out a second email, asked people not to forward or share the original email, and to delete it. But, someone in the group used the email addresses to try to direct-market their services to the rest of the group.
In a news release, the ministry said it followed up with the association responsible for self-governance of those types of services, and the association contacted the member, asking them to stop using the emails.
The ministry said it has disclosed the problem to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, and is apologizing for the error.
The First Home Plan is the initiative which would allow post-secondary graduates to borrow up to $10,000 of their unused Graduate Retention Program (GRP) tax credits to put toward the down payment on their first home.
