Richard Wolfe, founder of Indian Posse, dies in prison

A man, who is believed to have been a founder of the Indian Posse gang, died in prison on Friday.

Richard Daniel Wolfe, 40, was incarcerated at the medium security unit in the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. According to a news release from Correctional Service Canada, Richard Daniel Wolfe was found hurt and in need of medical attention in the penitentiary’s exercise yard on Friday. Wolfe was taken to hospital, and was pronounced dead there at 10:40 p.m.

Wolfe was serving a 26-and-a-half year sentence for convictions on several different charges including assault with a weapon, sexual assault, and attempted murder. Wolfe was on statutory release in 2014 when he sexually assaulted a woman and attacked her boyfriend in Fort Qu’Appelle.

Richard Wolfe is the brother of Daniel Wolfe, who was murdered in the Prince Albert Penitentiary in 2010, an attack that resulted in manslaughter convictions against six men.​. The brothers have been credited with creating the Indian Posse street gang. It started in Manitoba decades ago but eventually became a presence in Saskatchewan.
