News Talk 650 CKOM has received a national award for providing continuous coverage of the wildfires in Saskatchewan last summer.
More than 13,000 people in 50 communities had to flee their homes during the largest evacuation in the province’s history. In total, the wildfires cost the province over $100-million.
CKOM reporters travelled to La Ronge, Weyakwin, Prince Albert and Cold Lake, Alta. to share evacuees’ stories, while talk show hosts kept listeners informed with the latest updates on the situation.
News Talk 650 CKOM received the Ron Laidlaw Award on Saturday night. The national award is voted on by Canada’s radio and television news directors at the RTDNA, the association of electronic journalists.
