Ahead of the first pre-season game of the 2016 season, new banners were hung on the current Mosaic Stadium on Friday.
The one on the left shows Ron Lancaster in action. He was with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for 16 seasons through the 1960s and 70s. The Riders went to the playoffs for 14 of those 16 years, and Lancaster led the team to its first Grey Cup win in 1966. Lancaster also coached Saskatchewan in 1979 and 1980 before moving on to become a colour commentator for CFL games with the CBC.
Lancaster’s likeness has adorned the side of Mosaic Stadium before, but was taken down in 2012 – replaced by Roger Aldag.
The banner on the right of the stadium shows current Rider quarterback, Darian Durant, hoisting the Grey Cup in 2013. Durant has played with the Riders since 2006, and was with the team for four Grey Cup appearances in that time – winning two.
