At least one suspect has been apprehended after two schools in Maidstone, Sask. were placed in “hold and secure” mode Tuesday morning.
The superintendent of schools for the Northwest School Division, Terry Craig, said a threat was made against a school and some students in Maidstone early June 14.
“Right now everybody is safe, everyone’s secure. The RCMP are doing their investigation and they’ve apprended the suspects,” Craig said.
The school became aware of it and contacted RCMP.
Officers said they were called at 8:30 a.m. about the threat, prompting the security measures at Maidstone High School and Ratushniak Elementary School.
“Hold-and-secure” means the exterior doors are locked and monitored while classes continue inside.
The two schools remained in that state until shortly after 11 a.m.
Buses on their way to the schools were diverted to a parking lot outside town.
An investigation is currently underway.
