While the tragedy in Orlando, Florida may make many people angry and sad, Canada’s Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says he believes it also makes people more determined to not be intimidated.
The Regina-Wascana MP spoke with the CJME Morning Show Tuesday, saying he was saddened when he heard about the shooting, but not daunted by the actions of the gunman.
“We will not allow ourselves or our country to be intimidated or diminished by this … kind of bizarre, criminal, terrorist behavior.”
While the shooting happened far from Canada’s border, Goodale stressed that Canadians need to be vigilant.
“Canada fortunately is a very safe and peaceful country overall, but we need to be vigilant and we are,” Goodale said, adding that when incidents such as what happened in Orlando occur, police and security services redouble their efforts.
Goodale reiterated that Canadians need to be resilient in the face of these events.
“We need to go about living our lives as we want to live them in freedom with the rights and values that we treasure in our open and inclusive kind of democracy.”
