Prince Albert’s Gateway Mall stepped up to the challenge of knocking down hunger this weekend.
On Saturday, donated boxes of macaroni decorated an area of the mall.
The mall teamed up with the P.A. Food Bank to host “The Great Mac n’ Cheese Knockdown” in support of the food bank with a total of 3,700 boxes donated.
“There has been an outpouring of support for the food bank in our community and a very worthwhile cause,” said Donna Hordyski of the Gateway Mall. “[The boxes] all count because that means somebody is going to have a meal.”
Hordyski added that the knock down was the first of its kind in Prince Albert, but there have been others held across Canada before this one. The team was joined by a group of local nursing students to create the masterpiece.
“This looked like a really cool project and a great fundraising idea,” Wes Clarke, the food bank’s executive director, said. “Something beneficial to the community.”
Hordyski added that she was very proud of the city and tenants of the Gateway Mall for the support and hopes to see fundraising opportunities like this one continue in the community.
