Five months and five days after the tragic La Loche shootings which saw four killed and seven others injured, students, teachers, parents and community members gathered for high school graduation.
Full of eagerness to start the next chapter in their lives, Grade 12 students from the La Loche Community School were ready to graduate Monday.
Hundreds of people flooded the school’s Dene building for the special day with the entire RCMP detachment in attendance.
Security barred the media from entering the school grounds. Off grounds, students, parents and staff refused to comment on the special day other than to say it’s an amazing day for the community.
The accused shooter, who was 17 at the time of the incident, cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is set to appear in La Loche court via video on Thursday.
