The coroner said her death was an accident, but now a public inquest is being held into how Nadine Michiskinic died.
The 29-year-old woman fell down 10 storeys of a laundry chute at the Delta hotel in January last year, according to her family, and died a few hours later.
A coroner’s report that was released last month called the death accidental.
However, reports this week point to a forensic pathologist’s findings that Michiskinic was too intoxicated to get into the chute herself, so the death should be ruled undetermined.
On Wednesday, the chief coroner ordered a public inquest into the death, saying in a news release that it’s important the public confidence in the coroner’s service be upheld. He said the inquest will “provide an opportunity to thoroughly review the circumstances in a public forum.”
There was no date given for the inquest, only that it would be held “in the near future”.
