Following the tragic death of a Debden high school student, a dear friend is doing what he can to help the family.
Hunter Boyer, 16, was friends with Shaye Amundson for years after first meeting her while playing softball.
Amundson died Tuesday, June 26. RCMP said her car lost control on a grid road and entered water on the side of the road, where it was completely submerged.
“I know she’s in a better place and I know she’s happy up there,” Boyer said.
He is selling stickers for $5 to help cover the cost of Amundson’s funeral and assist her family with any additional costs. His first idea was to paint Amundson’s name and jersey number on their helmets, but decided on stickers since they’re more visible.
“I had the idea for them to be put on cars and helmets, wherever people want,” he said.
Five hundred stickers have been ordered and Boyer said he expects he’ll have to order more.
The stickers go on sale at the first Astros game July 6, and people can contact Hunter Boyer on Facebook for more information.
Amundson’s funeral will take place on Monday, July 4 in Debden. The service will be held at St Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church at 2:22 p.m.
The time of service is significant as Amundson had played ball on a team called the 222’s.
