Saskatoon businesses not worried about Canada Post lockout

Canada Post is preparing to stop work for employees as early as Friday.

The postal service issued a 72-hour lockout notice to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers on Tuesday.

The work stoppage would cause disruption in mail service for Saskatchewan residents and businesses, but some don’t seem to care.

“We can have interruptions and I’ll inform my customers I’m not shipping until the lockout is over,”said Gary Macklin, owner of Sceptre Coin and Stamp in Saskatoon.

Macklin said he uses the Canadian postal service regularly, but won’t make it responsible for his success.

“It’s happened before and business goes on,” he said.

CKOM News spoke with local automotive parts companies who said they barely use Canada Post, they mostly use couriers.

Canada Post said the 72-hour notice does not necessarily mean it will shut down on Friday.
