It’s going to be a wet start to the week for a big chunk of Saskatchewan.
On Sunday afternoon Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for central and southern Saskatchewan, warning of heavy rain.
The rain is expected to last from overnight Sunday or early Monday morning until Tuesday.
A slow moving low pressure system is currently over Saskatchewan, but an upper disturbance is moving to merge with it, creating the storms.
Most areas can expect 20 to 30 mm, or about an inch, of rain over the 48 hours, according to meteorologist Brian Bukoski – but there are some exceptions.
“Depending on the intensity, and how many thunderstorms are in the area, and various other factors, some places could exceed 100 mm (or four inches) over the next 48 hours.”
The statement is very general and broad, however Bukoski said more details will be released as the path of the storm becomes more clear.
“In the next day or two you should see some heavy rainfall warnings being a little bit more specific on to how much we’re going to get and which areas as well.”
