A Regina man, found guilty of second degree murder in the death of a young child, has had his appeal denied.
After being found guilty of killing two-year-old Natalia Shingoose in January, 2015, Adam Riley Cyr decided to appeal his conviction – life imprisonment with no chance of parole for 12 years.
The grounds of appeal were directed to the jury charge. The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal found the grounds of appeal had no merit.
Cyr, 36, will continue to serve his sentence.
On the morning of June 21, 2012, Shingoose was found unresponsive by her mother Amanda Trevors. When paramedics arrived on scene, Shingoose was pronounced dead. Further investigation found the toddler died of blunt force trauma with injuries to her internal organs including her right lung, her liver, and her heart.
Cyr and Trevors were taken into custody and questioned. Another man, who had been at the house hours before Shingoose was found dead, was also questioned and released. Trevors was released as well, but Cyr was not, eventually being charged.
Cyr’s appeal attempted to blame a family friend and an eight-year-old boy for the death of Shingoose. In the end, the Court of Appeal dismissed those ideas.
