Some of the construction work on the K+S Potash mine in Bethune is stalled after an accident at the Legacy mine site.
A large processing vessel came crashing down at 4:23 a.m. on Sunday morning when the support structure failed. Fortunately there were no serious injuries, but it did cause significant damage.
A communications person with the company said the incident is still under investigation to determine exactly what happened and how bad the damage is.
Most of the operations at the mine site are still functional, but the area where the crash occurred is blocked off and construction workers are on ‘stand-down’ mode.
There are no details available about what the accident could mean in terms of a delay to the mine that is supposed to start production by the end of the year.
