A martial arts team from Saskatoon and area were near Munich when a deadly attack took place in the city Friday.
Adult members from Okami Martial Arts travelled to Germany for a three-day international competition running July 22-24.
“Just a quick check in – especially with the Munich attack that just happened. We are all safe and sound,” said club owner Crystal Greenwood in a Facebook post Friday.
Police reported multiple people were killed during a shooting spree at OIympia shopping centre on July 22.
Mandy Nemanishen, a friend of Greenwood, said she first learned of the Munich attack on Twitter and immediately tried to reach the team through social media.
“That’s mostly the main thing, at least getting that initial communication going,” she said. “Thank goodness Facebook is great that way because I don’t even know if they have phones, or their accessibility.”
Nemanishen said at least two members of the team hail from Langham, Sask.
According to the location on her Facebook post, Greenwood was in Landshut, Germany when she checked in safe; around 72 kilometres from the mall.
