Due to recent water conservation restrictions in Prince Albert following a major oil spill, visits at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary have been put on hold.
According to a release from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Tuesday, all visits are temporarily cancelled.
The CSC said the penitentiary, which houses all levels of offenders, is operating on a modified routine as they work with local authorities to resolve the situation.
Normal visits will resume at a future date.
Sometime between the night of Wednesday, July 20, and the next morning, 200,000 to 250,000 litres of oil spilled into the North Saskatchewan River, prompting Prince Albert’s water intake system to be closed.
