Cayden Lapcevich made history at Wyant Group Raceway Thursday night.
The 16-year-old native of Grimsby, Ont. took the checkered flag at the Velocity Prairie Thunder 250, part of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series.
“I’m smiling from head-to-toe,” Lapcevich said. “This is a dream come true.”
Lapcevich held off L.P. Dumoulin late to score his first series victory in front of 1500 fans.
“The car really came alive around lap 150,” Lapcevich said. “I got smooth, patient, and never looked back.”
Lapcevich got the win in just his 13th start, to become the youngest winner in the history of the series at 16 years, eight months and 24 days old.
Alex Labbe followed Dumoulin in third. Alex Tagliani and Andrew Ranger rounded out the top five.
The race had eight cautions.
It will be televised on TSN on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 2:30 p.m.
The NASCAR Pinty’s series will return to action on Aug. 14 at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres for the Can-Am 50 Tours.
