A new poll has provided some insight into the perceptions Canadians have of crime in their country, and which cities are the most dangerous.
The Mainstreet/Postmedia poll puts Ottawa at the top of the list as the city perceived as the safest in Canada.
By comparison, Winnipeg ranked at the very bottom of list out of 15 cities, perceived as the most dangerous city in the country.
The poll also shows a majority of Canadians believe that Regina is safe, with 30 per cent saying they feel the Queen City is unsafe. That was good for a sixth place finish.
“These perceptions may be driven by national media coverage,” President of Mainstreet Research Quito Maggi said.
“While Saskatchewan has seen significant coverage of local crime, Regina also has positive coverage due to its position as the seat of government where a popular premier governs,” Maggi added.
Saskatoon is just a few spots up from Winnipeg, in 12th place.
The poll surveyed just over 4,200 people from August 3-4.
