Parts of downtown Saskatoon will look more like a giant parking lot this weekend.
More than 900 classic cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display Sunday for the 34th annual Rock 102 Show and Shine.
The big show encompasses more than 10 city blocks from 1st to 4th Avenue, between 20th and 23rd streets, and is expected to draw more than 40,000 people.
Owners hoping to show off their classic cars are invited to park between 9 am–10:30 am with their pre-1996 vehicle. There is no fee for taking part in the show.
People are reminded, however, not to park their vehicles downtown Saturday overnight. Any vehicles parked within the designated area will be towed away at no charge to vehicle owners.
Show & Shine runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday. Awards will be handed out on the main stage at 2 p.m. for various categories.
Crowds will also take in great live music as Rock 102’s Rock the River gets underway at the Bessborough Gardens.
Sass Jordon is on stage Friday night, with 54-40 and Lighthouse headlining Saturday.
Loverboy rounds out the weekend with a sold-out show Sunday, capping off more than 11 performances that day.
Other events slated for Show & Shine weekend include 50th-anniversary races at Saskatchewan International Raceway, a viewing party of The Tragically Hip’s final show in Kingston, Ont. and a poker rally.
