Health regions are in the same boat as school divisions when it comes to losing out on Worker’s Compensation Board surplus.
On Wednesday, it came out that $4 million of the $281.5 million WCB surplus that would have gone to the province’s school divisions was actually being taken back by the provincial government.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Health confirmed the same thing is happening with approximately $31 million from the WCB which would have gone to the province’s health regions.
The money is being taken by the government, through a reduction in the health region’s transfers, and will be put into the General Revenue Fund to help reduce the province’s deficit.
