Family, friends and strangers are set to gather for a candlelight vigil to honour 22-year-old Colten Boushie nearly a month after he was fatally shot on a Saskatchewan farm.
The vigil is open to the public and will be held at the Don Ross Centre in North Battleford Thursday at 6 p.m.
A Facebook event said the gathering will feature speakers, drummers and performances.
“Community coming together in prayer, love and light. Remembering the late Colten Boushie and supporting one another during this time,” the post read.
Two weeks after the shooting, an elder visiting Boushie’s home community of Red Pheasant First Nation said people there are still trying to heal from the loss.
Boushie was killed on Aug. 9 after the vehicle he was in drove onto a farm in the rural municipality of Glenside, west of Saskatoon.
Gerald Stanley, 54, is charged with second-degree murder in Boushie’s death.
Hundreds of people rallied outside the accused’s bail hearings on Aug. 18. Organizers said the effort was a show of support for the victim’s family.
