The accused drunk driver in a fatal crash north of Regina appeared in court on Wednesday morning.
Colby Heid, 19, was wearing a bright orange jumpsuit when he appeared via video conference in Provincial Court in Regina.
The RCMP said Heid was driving on the Pasqua Street extension grid road south of Zehner when his pickup collided with another truck, killing a Regina man.
The man he allegedly hit was Tanner Kaufmann, 37, who leaves behind a wife and two young sons.
His friend David Limacher said Kaufmann always cared about his friends.
“Tanner was the kind of guy who said no to drinking and driving,” said Limacher outside court this morning. “If somebody had a drink, he would call you a cab. He was that kind of guy.”
Limacher said his friend will be remembered for his kindness.
“He was just salt of the earth, one of the nicest guys I have ever known,” he commented. “He was always a guy that everyone could rely on. He would help everybody out no matter what.”
Heid will appear in court again on Thursday morning to discuss bail.
