Health Canada is warning people that a pre-workout product seized at a Regina store could be fatal.
Black Orange was being sold at Keebo Sports Supplements in the city. Health Canada says to stop using the product and to consult your doctor if you have health concerns.
The unauthorized product contains Yohimbine, a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
People who are at a higher risk include those with high blood pressure or heart or liver disease. Side effects include increased blood pressure and heart rate, anxiety, dizziness, tremors, headaches, nausea and sleep disorders.
The product also contains a combination of ephedrine and caffeine, which when combined can cause serious effects and be fatal. Symptoms include dizziness, tremors, headaches and irregularities in heart rate to seizures, psychosis, heart attacks and stroke. Canadians suffering from heart conditions, high blood pressure and diabetes are among those particularly at risk.
The product shouldn’t be used by children or pregnant or nursing women.
Health Canada says people should read product labels to verify they’re approved for sale. Authorized products have an eight-digit DIN, a DIN-Hm or a NPN. You can also search their database online.
