Race for the Mayor's chair in Saskatoon officially a four-way contest

Don Atchison made it official, announcing he will let his name stand as a candidate for re-election as Mayor in Saskatoon.

Atchison made the announcement at his campaign headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.

“On October 26th, citizens will have a choice to keep Saskatoon working or risk Saskatoon’s future to inexperience,” Atchison said.

Atchison addressed those who have said it is time for a change.

“We are leading change. We’re changing transportation, housing, sports and recreation. We’re changing safety and security. We’re creating higher quality of life for every citizens from one end of the city to the other,” Atchison said.

On transportation, Atchison said the city has added 16 lanes of bridges to make the commute shorter so Saskatonians can spend more time with their family.

“Circle Drive north is changing lives,” Atchison added. “The Parkway bridge will do the same in the north end.”

Atchison said the city’s attainable housing program is the number one program in all of Canada.

“And that’s not the mayor saying that. That’s not Don Atchison saying that. In fact, that’s CMHC saying that, that’s the number one housing program in all of Canada. We’ve provided incentives to help build homes for 4500 families over the last 8 years.”

Atchison, who was first elected as a city councillor in 1994, is seeking his fourth consecutive term as mayor.

He was first elected as mayor in 2003. He was re-elected in 2006, 2009 and 2012.
 
In fact, by the end of his current term, he will be the longest serving mayor in the city`s history.

He will be running against Charlie Clark, who announced his intention to run for mayor back in May, Henry Dayday, who made his intentions known back in June, Kelley Moore who joined the race in August.
