Current Dr Martin LeBoldus Catholic High School students were excited Tatiana Maslany, a graduate of the school, won an Emmy award on Sept. 18.
“When I first started in the arts, I never really thought of it as a viable career option and here I am seeing somebody who’s been through the same steps I’ve been who’s making a career out of something she loves,’ said Emily Bartlett, a grade 12 drama student at LeBoldus.
Bartlett also admires all the hard work Maslany has put into becoming an award winning actress.
“Her parents helped her out a little bit, but for the most part she went out and did what she loved and she got herself those parts despite being from a place where not many people know.”
Bartlett says she would like to continue studying theatre after she is finished high school.
It’s not just the students who were excited about Maslany’s win.
Sophia Yunnitsos is the arts education consultant for the Regina Catholic School Divison and she says this is a great motivator for students who want to pursue acting as a career path.
“Tatiana’s a student, she was a student like everyone else in the classroom,” Yunnitsos said. “She had aspirations and dreams like every other student has on present so why not.”
Drama students at the school are currently rehearsing The Count of Monte Cristo which will be performed at the end of November.
