An early morning fire in Osler destroyed one of the small town’s largest businesses.
The Osler Fire Department received the call just after 6 a.m. on Sunday and had the fire under control by 3 p.m.
650 CKOM learned it was at a warehouse that houses DAG-Wood Products, which builds home fixtures such as wooden staircases.
Fire Chief Jason Pauls said it was a challenging fire for the crew, who worked alongside members from the Warman Fire Department.
“There was certainly some challenges with the different stains and lacquers,” Pauls said.
“A tin steel roof certainly blankets a fire down. It’s tough to get at and tough to put out your hot spots because everything caved straight in.”
Fire crews remained on scene early Monday morning putting out hot spots.
Pauls said once the scene has cooled a fire investigator will begin working on the cause.
Damage is pegged at more than $1 million.
The cause is not yet known, but officials say the amount of wood products inside the building caused the blaze to spread quickly.
Osler is located around 30 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
