It is the first small taste of winter and the highway crews are ready for what conditions may come.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Monday regarding the heavy rainfall across the province and snow is expected in the southwest.
Regardless of what comes, highway crews are ready if needed.
“We always have to be ready for either early fall or late spring snowstorms and certainly we’re available to perform snow and ice control where and when it’s needed,” explained Doug Wakabayashi with the Ministry of Highways.
“This time of year the pavement temperatures are still very warm, so in a lot of cases the snow will melt pretty much as soon as it hits the road, but we are looking out for any accumulations and the plows will be out where and when they’re necessary.”
The highways hotline is not yet manned 24/7 but is updated year round to inform drivers of conditions they should know about.
