Dog attack sends child, woman to hospital in Regina

A dog attack in Regina’s north end sent two people to hospital, including a child.

Police were called out early Friday afternoon to a home on the 500 block of Pasqua Street. EMS were there attending to the seven-year-old girl and 52-year-old woman who were bitten by, what an animal protection officer with the Regina Humane Society, described as a Bullmastiff-type dog.

Regina police said the injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

The protection officer posted two notices on the home’s front door indicating the humane society was taking the animal.

Brandon Rus lives in the house, but he wasn’t there when the attack happened. When he returned home, he noticed blood on the floor, doorknob and in the sink. A tuft of hair covered in blood was stuck to the hardwood floor.

“I’m pretty shocked. I’m freaking out,” he said.

Rus said as many as seven other people live in the home with him, most of whom are family. He said the dog’s owner is the male partner of one of his aunts. He doesn’t know which family members were injured, and was confused to learn of the dog’s actions.

“That’s pretty surprising to me. I’ve never seen that side of him. He’s a sweetheart but sometimes he can get a little bit too sweet and he gets rough,” Rus explained, but clarified the dog didn’t show signs of aggressiveness around him.

However, a shaken Rus announced if there’s going to be a dangerous animal in his home, his mind is made up.

“I can tell you this — no dogs or animals are coming back in this house.”
