At one point Graham DeLaet looked poised to capture his first win on the PGA tour. With a one-shot lead on the back nine, the Weyburn, Sask. native double bogeyed the 11th hole on the way to an 8th place finish at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
DeLaet birdied three of the first nine holes in the final round to take a lead heading into the final stretch. The double-bogey on the par-five 11th was followed by a bogey on 12. He finished the round even and -13 for the tournament.
As DeLaet began to struggle, American Cody Gribble heated up with five birdies on the back nine to pull away with the win at -20.
The performance is still a positive one for DeLaet, who posts a top ten finish in just the second tournament of the 2016-17 golf season. It is also the 34-year-old’s 27th top ten finish of his career.
The next tournament on the tour schedule is the Shriners Hospital for Children’s Open in Las Vegas starting on Nov. 3.
