Family of a Martensville man say they are relieved to hear an arrest has been made 7 years after his death.
Dallas Martens was shot and killed Sept. 18, 2009 during an apparent robbery on the tropical island of Roatán, Honduras. He was 31.
Jamie Martens, Dallas’ cousin, said Dallas’ mom told her a man was arrested over the weekend.
“It’s something that, you know, I think at least put our mind at ease a bit until we can find out the whole story of course,” she said.
Dallas and his wife were newlyweds in 2009 when they traveled to Honduras to adopt a young boy.
Dallas’ parents and his widow have not been on speaking terms since his death, according to Jaime. She said she hopes the arrest can help reunite them.
“I’m hoping that of cours, that we get some sort of relief, and maybe that they can come together,” she said, adding she always had faith this day would come.
She said they’re now waiting to hear more about what charges the suspect could be facing.
