The Chicago Cubs ended a 108-year championship drought and the party was on in Chicago – and in Regina.
A few Cubs fans watched the game at Leopold’s Tavern and were on a rollercoaster of emotions. As the game went on, every play grew in importance and reaction from the fans watching. Even those who had no affiliation to either team were watching intently.
Fans cheered as David Ross hit a homerun, becoming the oldest player to do so in Game 7 of the World Series. A familiar feeling started to creep in when Rajai Davis hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.
And then there was the rain delay.
“I can’t believe this game right now with everything that’s happened and now there’s a rain delay? Are you kidding me?” a fan wearing a Cubs hat said as the game went to a 15-minute delay.
“This is intense.”
And then it happened.
Cubs win? That is so 1908!

Ben Zobrist hit a double in the top of the 10th to score the go-ahead run and the cheering began. Then Miguel Montero singled home a run to make it 8-6.
In the bottom of the 10th, Davis hit a RBI single and a sense of nervousness once again crept into the hearts of Cubs fans.
The next batter hit a grounder to Kris Bryant – who was smiling before he fielded the ball – and threw it to first base to record the last out needed to end 108 years of misery for Cubs fans.
Then the party was on.

“I’m just ecstatic, I feel relieved.”
“A lot of up, a lot of downs but mostly ups cause I love my team.”
Erica Langwost was born in Chicago, before her family moved to Manitoba. She now goes to school in Regina.
“I have lived my whole life pretty much watching the Cubs and this moment is pretty much what I have, every year we wait for,” Langwost said as she celebrated the victory.
She also mentioned as much as she loves it in Regina, she wishes she could be in Chicago with the rest of her family to take in the party.
