Blades loss breaks out at a boxing match with Regina

All the attention of a high scoring game was lost in the fights during a 9-6 win for Regina over the Saskatoon Blades. 

The Pats came into the game without a regulation loss and got to work early. Regina scored six times in the first period to take a 6-2 lead into the break. Michael Farren and Braylon Shmyr scored for the Blades. 

Saskatoon pulled Brock Hamm in favour of Logan Flodell ahead of the second period and the goalie change seemed to spark the Blades. Michael Farren scored his second of the night while Gage Ramsay made it two unanswered to cut the Pats’ lead in half.

After both sides added another goal in the second, the Pats took over early in the third period. Regina turned a 7-5 lead into a 9-5 advantage early in the frame. Caleb Fantillo rounded out the scoring, but that was all the Blades could manage.

While there was plenty of goals in the third, there was also plenty of fights. A line brawl broke out at 17:11 of the third.

And not long after, several more minor dust-ups emerged. In all, the two sides combined for 155 penalty minutes.

The Blades are back in action Saturday night at home to the Kootenay ICE.
