It’s been tough for the Rider fan base to keep its emotions in check in the last couple of days.
Darian Durant’s description of talks with the team being at a “stand still” has generated discussion and even concern with the fan base.
How quickly things can change.
Two weeks ago, the vice president of football ops, general manager and head coach Chris Jones suggested that talks were moving forward. Durant talked about a goal of walking out of the new Mosaic Stadium with a Grey Cup title before he retires.
The tone from garbage bag day was much different.
Jones has to keep the big picture in the forefront when setting aside salary for Durant. He also has to be sure that another five-win season doesn’t happen in the new stadium.
If Jones thinks the surge and volume is high now, just wait until year two of his contract – if there is no Durant, and no playoff appearance for a third straight year.
