The economic future looks brighter in Regina.
A new survey for Economic Development Regina shows business leaders in the city believe the tide is turning.
The economy has not been as robust in recent years, with the oil and gas industry particularly hard hit by the drop in resource revenue. However, there are signals that’s changing with 58 per cent of respondents thinking the economy is performing better today than one year ago.
Over half of respondents expect sales revenues in business to increase over the next year. It is also hoped many businesses will now have the confidence to reinvest or even create new jobs.
It’s a sentiment echoed by local entrepreneurs, like caterer Aimee Schulhauser of Schoolhaus Culinary Arts.
“I feel the tide is turning and even people are treating themselves to a lunch out, it is happening more often than it used to,” Schulhauser said.
“I think that some people have eased up on their budget constraints a little bit and there is a little bit of money for the extra perks they might have.”
The survey was sent to 86 CEOs and senior executives in Regina’s business community. The response rate was 58 per cent.
